" LA-VIGNE-AU-GAIN "
AT THE HEART OF CLUNY-STYLE ROMANESQUE ART :
ON THE THRESHOLD OF A NEW WORL

ON THE THRESHOLD OF A NEW WORLD

Founded in 910 by Guillaume, Duke of Aquitaine, the Abbey of Cluny was placed exclusively under the Pope's Rule (privilege of exemption). Under the governance of remarkable abbots, a unique network of priories, monasteries and churches was created from the 12th century onwards, thus generating and consolidating a fine type of architecture, sculpture and painting: ROMANESQUE ART. The monastic Order of Cluny helped to give rise to a new era ; it led to the “Golden Age” of Western Civilisation in the Middle Ages (11th-13th centuries). Be enthralled by this wonderful and precious legacy of Romanesque Art!
